I blame smartphones. In the battle between convienence and preference convenience is seriously winning out. I used to bring my SLR camera with me WHEREVER I went. Then I decided to invest in an OK point-and-shoot for convenience. Now, my mental checklist includes-baby, diapers, wallet, phone. Phone. Always with the phone!
My husband and I resisted smartphones for quite a while, desiring a less plugged-in lifestyle, but again in the name of convince we caved when our daughter was born and I decided to pursue photography full-time. Funny thing is, I think it has been hurting me in the photog department. I am less inclined to pick up my camera and take a few practice shots, or capture a moment that strikes me and more inclined to push the boundaries of my little, less-than-ideal phone camera. Don’t get me wrong. I love the ease and practicality, and I’m an instagraming and facebook fool but last night I looked at my camera and gave it a little sympathy face with an apologetic “tomorrow my friend.”
I need to break this curse, and start giving it some TLC. I realized this morning I have taken no “good” pictures of my babe while grandma’s been in town…and I stopped in my tracks.
This is my official kick in the butt!
But until then, you’ll have to settle for a little sneak into my life via my ..womp womp.. phone.
