I am SOOO excited that school is out and I can spent some more one-on-one/bonding/special time with my favorite ambiguous thing–MY CAMERA!!

I envy the people who take the time to do things like taking a picture-a-day etc.  and have wanted to do something fun to help me develop my eye (and train me how to finesse manual mode) but I haven’t really had time to do so–really you should see my calendar–some people think I have issues (I probably do, but we’ll save that for another post).

So now that I have no school until late August/September I figured it’d be the PERFECT time to make myself do a little leg work.

ANNOUNCING:  Learning my Camera: A to Z.

Here’s the deal.  I have this awesome camera, and I can take decent photos with it, but I need to become WAY more comfortable with it’s abilities in order to better serve you!    To do this, I am embarking on this assignment.

Every week this summer I will focus on a letter of the alphabet.  This week it will be A.  In doing this I need to take pictures that push my comfort level somehow focusing on the letter A, whether this be “aperture” or I take a picture of “apples” with a new setting–whatever it be it must correlate to A.  Some weeks I may double letters, for example “X” will be a hard week…so I might combine “W” and “X” to make it more interesting.  I will post my photos from the week on Sundays (I think).

Can’t wait!!  Please feel free to comment, criticize, and enjoy my posts along my journey!

For now, I thought I’d post one of my favorite black-and-white photos in relation to my previous post from Ashley and Johns wedding…

My favorite local photographer, Jenn Van Wyk, was nice enough to ask me to accompany her to her wedding gig on May 1st for Ashley and John.  It was a beautiful event for two beautiful people.  These two really love each other, and you could tell that that is what the day was about.  John and Ashley were awesome at “keepin’ it real” and going with the flow which made it an awesome day for me to hide behind the lens and take it all in.

Jenn did an amazing job–as always–but it was so fun to watch her in action and to get in on the fun!  I learned so much; but most importantly I learned that I have so much MORE to learn!  This opportunity really got me vamped for the rest of the weddings I have planned for this year (and next!) and I cannot wait to improve with each opportunity I am given!

I am going to start with a few of my favorite B&W’s.  Personally I LOVE a good B&W photo–there is just something to “un”-telling about them that makes me want to stare at them endlessly thinking about the story behind them.   Plus I just love the drama they entail!  Enjoy!
Egh!, who am I kidding? I think I’ll make this post a uniquely “grey” post and keep the b&w coming…(there are colors on facebook)
Aren’t these two just darling?
Maybe I love b&w because it reminds me of all the photos I spent hours thumbing through and ingraining into my brain from all of the days of the lives of those dear to me that took place before I came into the world.  It’s PROBABLY my favorite thing to do–look at old photos, of people known and unknown, and to create their story in my mind.     This picture, to the left looks like one of those photos to me–a bring embracing her dad’s arm before beginning the journey of her marriage–it’s a common image, but so beautifully unique to us all. LOVE the b&w.

Thanks Ashley and John for letting me be a part of your big day!!

I am so honored Lindsay and Brett chose me to shoot their October wedding!!  I am so super excited to capture all the fall colors and to see them unite in marriage!  It has been a blast getting to know them better and we had a fabulous time downtown Madison getting some spring engagement shots out of the way.  (When they weren’t yelling at me for laying down in the middle of the street or walking the line between falling off the pillar through the glass windows below and capturing what turned out to be my FaVoRiTe photo from their session!) ((I really need to widen my array of lens capabilities–for my own safety!!))

We decided to do an evening shoot and may-haps capture some of the beautiful spring sun-setting light–and I think we managed it! We also managed to work on Brett’s “dipping” skills so I’m sure he’ll get an A++ at the wedding!!

We made it from the far end of the UW campus, down past the capitol, and back (while capturing beyond dozens of pictures) within a little over a hour!  Talk about speedy feet!  To calm things down a bit we headed over  to the cutest little park in SunPrairie, where lucky for us the fishermen took a break just in time to get some great covered-bridge action!
