As their wedding day approached we were 99% sure we’d get rained out.  But, for once, I wasn’t really too worried. Why? Because Aaron and Emily are perhaps the most organized and planned out couple I have ever worked with.  Not only did they have a back up plan, I’m pretty sure they’d come up with a back up plan for their back up plan.   And that my friends? Music to my type-A ears!!

I arrived to their home where they were getting ready and it was an awesome laid back atmosphere with little worry about the weather and a loving ‘see-ya-later’ to their cat children we were off to take some pictures.  I couldn’t believe how lucky we got with  the weather, the light, the atmosphere, everything.  It was perfect.  All day we dodged rain clouds at the appropriate times.  When were able to grab some amazing shots at Tenney Park in Madison, and then head to the First Unitarian Meeting house for the ceremony.  By the time we made our way to the Reception at the Monona Community Center, the rain made its appearance, only to clear up just in time for me to grab some evening shots right before I left.

Someone had their backs, and rightfully so.  Emily and Aaron are a lovely couple surrounded by SO many great people who traveled from all over to celebrate with them.  The love throughout the day was almost palpable.

This past week I had the privilege of working with this beautiful family.  It’s always an adventure when there are three kids or more in a session, but these kiddos were a lot of fun.  Each so unique and pleasant.  And mom and dad were equally so–so laid back, kind, and easy to work with.   Couple all that with an amazing sunset and beautiful location (Pope Farm Conservancy) and magic happens!  (Mosquito bites aside ya’ll).

I am so excited about how this session came to be.  Jessica (mom) is a contributor for Madison Mom’s Blog.  It is an AWESOME blog and resource for Madison parents.   I stumbled onto one day at the beginning of this year saw a call for local businesses to take part in their giveaways and I responded.  From there, I met Alissa (one of the co-founders of the blog) and we brainstormed some ideas and ways for me to be more involved with their little blog-o-sphere.

In April, MMB hosted an Easter photo competition, and the winner won a session with me!  And now, I am pleased to be one of their go-to photographers moving forward.  It is not only a magnificent opportunity for me, it is also another way for me to be involved in my community–something I am very passionate about!  So, Jessica is going to be writing up a little diddy about our session together and it will be featured on MMB here in the near future.  As soon as it is, I will update this post with a link 🙂  Meanwhile, check out this fun family!!

You know what really makes my day?!  When people find out about me on Google!  My whole business is based around referrals; I’m a photographer, not a web and marketing genius.  So you can only imagine it’s music to my ears when I’m told I popped up on the worlds most popular search engine!    Even better? The fact that I was picked out of all the results the search produced.

I always get a little heart-stopping tingle of excitement when a family pops out of their cars perfectly coordinated and smiley as can be.  It really gets things started on the right foot.  These little guys were the cutest–and little Parker just turned 6 months old!  The second I saw him he melted me with one of his perfectly adorable gummy smiles.  We met at Pope Farm Conservancy early Wednesday morning and fought off the bright sunlight as best we could!

Thanks for a lovely morning Emily and Adam.  Your family is just beautiful and I look forward to working with you in the future 🙂

A couple weeks ago I spent the day soaking up knowledge, excitement, inspiration and encouragement at a *fabulous* workshop in Chicago.  Since before I actually started my business I have know about this awesome California-based photog, Jasmine Star. I’ve been drawn to her particularly because, business-wise, she’s an open book.  She’s wildly successful, hugely influential, and smart, passionate AND compassionate on top of it all.  I’ve know this through her blog–but after actually meeting her and her husband JD in person, it was confirmed and beyond.

I went to this workshop with one goal: Don’t throw up, don’t be stupid, and keep an open mind.  Doing this sort of thing is way out of my comfort zone.  It’s beyond my confidence level, and it took everything in me not to fake sickness and call it a day…before I walked in the door.  If you can believe it, I got to Robyn Rachel’s studio (where the workshop was) about an hour early..so when I started seeing other photogs begin to show up in the parking lot I had to force myself to stop hiding in the back of the car in fear of awkward hellos!!  But I did.  And I actually initiated conversations and hellos.  Goal? Met.  My work here was complete.  Now all I had to do was sit back and LEARN.  I’m good at doing that!

Strangely enough, I didn’t have a short list of what I wanted to get out of this workshop (other than moving passed my own weird social quirks).  But the very first thing Jasmine did was focus us and force us to come up with what we wanted to gain the most out of the workshop. She’s a pro–it was extremely helpful.  I told her I wanted to learn how to pose people more candidly, naturally and easily.

We spent the first part of the day in the studio listening to Jasmine talk about the business aspect of things.  I learned a lot.  But what I didn’t expect to learn, and follow through with was a better way to manage my workflow.  I have always been aware of a lot of things she mentioned but for some reason I never let them seem applicable to me.  The second I got home, I couldn’t wait to begin implementing them.  I’m all about efficiency, and this workshop was the little extra kick I needed to really get there!

After lunch, we made our way outside (and in) at Salvage One to take some pictures.  We had BEAUTIFUL models and a beautiful day.  The vendors that made them even more stunning were outstanding:

Hair: Nicci Loiacono
Makeup: Megan Hauser
Accessories: Left Bank Jewelry
Dress: Valentino from Belle Vie Bridal
Tuxedo: Formally Modern Tuxedo
Flowers: A Stem Above

I am so pleased with this experience and so happy I did it!  I can’t wait to go to more workshops in the future.  It’s  just amazing how much information was packed into 1 short day!
